The Arizona Center for Afterschool Excellence was selected as one of five statewide afterschool networks to receive funding from the National League of Cities to hold a mayoral summit on afterschool.  The Center will organize a statewide event to help brand the afterschool movement in Arizona and develop a group of city champions.  The goals of the event include highlighting best practices, showcasing the impact of high-quality programs and discussing the role that cities can play.  Tucson Mayor Robert E. Walkup will host the statewide summit, and representatives from the City of Phoenix and the League of Arizona Cities and Towns will serve on the summit planning committee.

National Missing Childrens Day is quickly approaching! This May, and throughout the year, make child safety a priority by participating in the Take 25 campaign.

About Take 25
Take 25, a program of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) , was created in commemoration of National Missing Childrens Day, May 25th. Take 25 encourages parents, guardians, law enforcement, and others to spend twenty-five minutes talking to children about personal safety.

Event Registration
Register your Take 25 event now!  Once you’ve registered your event online, you will receive an Event ID and will be prompted to visit our materials ordering site  where you can order free child safety materials for your event.  With more events being scheduled than anticipated, materials are being requested in record numbers. To ensure you get plenty of materials for your event, we encourage you to register your event and request materials as soon as possible.

Approximately 500 afterschool program staff, site directors, program coordinators, curriculum and evaluation specialists from public schools, parks & recreation, youth development (YMCA, Camp Fire, Boys & Girls Clubs, Boys Scouts, Girls Scouts, 4-H, etc.), faith based, military, private nonprofit and for-profit programs.

After-School leaders are invited to attend the International Child and Youth Care Conference with leading youth development practitioners from around the world. Workshops will focus on best practices for informal learning, especially out-of-school time settings.

Dr. Andy Munoz, co-editor of After-School Around The World, will give a key note focusing on the power of advocacy and programs for our youth.
